18. The Threshold

The Threshold is about the moment darkness found a door — a curious boy picking
up the Necronomicon in a strange shop, opening himself to demonic influence that
grew until a friend saw a beast standing beside him in his own room, and two
believers prayed over him until he stood on a battlefield between light and
darkness, where an angel told him he had to choose — and he stepped across.

Track 18: The Threshold
Spoken Word

My mother married a ghost in a bottle.
I spent my nights dragging his passed-out body from the hallway.
Breakfast was debbie cakes and quarter water,
never normal food, while her fridge was always stocked with beer.
But then I met a dear friend.
He fed me when his own cupboards were bare.
He protected me like a brother.
For a moment, I thought I was safe.
But the darkness was just changing its shape.
It was waiting for me in a little shop,
where a woman looked at me like she already knew my name.
On the shelf sat a little black book with strange writings on it.
I picked it up, not knowing what it was.
She looked at me and said, "Good choice.
That is a book for power."

Verse 1

A little black book with strange writings on the skin,
I pulled it from the shelf and let the shadows in.
The Necronomicon, pages dripping with a curse,
A heavy, unseen presence making everything much worse.
It started with a scratching right behind the walls,
Whispering my name to answer a broken child's calls.
"God is the one who left you," the unseen liars said,
"We are your real family. Let us inside your head."

Verse 2

A neighbor's friend, a witch who knew my name right from the start,
She hated me for nothing, holding malice in her heart.
She intervened to twist the knife and magnify the dread,
Intensifying every dark delusion inside my head.
She fed the unseen enemies and helped the shadows grow,
A curse from someone living in a world I didn't know.

Pre-Chorus

A phone call to my friend, the shadows intervened,
My mother picked the line up and heard a woman scream.
The demons guarded every door, they fed upon my pain,
They wrapped me in their promises and drove me half insane!

Chorus

I threw the Bible in the garbage, raging at the sky,
Looking up and cursing God, believing every lie!
Seduced by the demons, embraced by the night,
Trading my salvation just to finally win the fight.
They told me I was loved, they told me I was theirs,
A prisoner of darkness walking up the devil's stairs!

Verse 3

The dear friend who fed me, he pulled me to the side,
He saw the shadows growing that I couldn't even hide.
He looked me in the eye and asked me what was going on,
"I do not like the things I see, the boy I knew is gone."
He told me I should stop before it tore my life apart,
But the demons had a heavy grip around my bleeding heart.

Verse 4

Another friend came over, a Christian at his heart,
He sat upon my bed and watched the living nightmare start.
His eyes went wide with terror, he bolted for the door,
He saw the beast beside me standing on the floor.
Razor teeth and shadows, its arm around my soul,
The demon had me tethered, completely in control.

Bridge

The next day he was calling, his sister on the line,
They started praying over me to break the dark design!
The voices started screaming! "Don't listen to a word!"
A deafening rebellion, the loudest I had heard.

Spoken Word

The room disappeared.
I stood upon a battlefield of ash.
Darkness on one side, light on the other,
and a line drawn in the sand.
A massive angel grabbed my hand and pulled me to the edge.
He looked down at me and said, "I cannot move you beyond this threshold.
You must make the choice."

Chorus

I stepped across the threshold, and left the dark behind!
A casualty of demons, but I finally made up my mind.
I took the hand of Jesus, I gave away my rage,
I walked out of the fire and I locked the devil's cage!
The screams began to fade, the shadows lost their hold,
A broken, bruised survivor coming back into the fold!

Outro

The voices diminished...
I was the one who got away.
But from time to time...
I see them grinning through other people's faces.
They are waiting, watching still.
Waiting for my demise.
