A Life in Music

Born in Ocala, Florida, Thomas moved to Bayonne, New Jersey, at the age of four. Enduring a deeply difficult childhood, music quickly became his sanctuary and a vital escape. While living in New Jersey, he channeled this into joining the band Legacy, performing at numerous live shows across the state. He eventually relocated to Staten Island, NY, where he became a member of Damned Cause in 1998. Watch the band on YouTube. The band gained recognition through radio interviews and airplay on stations such as WSIA 88.9 FM (listen) and WKNJ-FM (90.3 FM) (listen), even opening for legendary acts like Exodus and Crisis.

During this time, Thomas and the band were featured on a compilation CD titled United We Stand, produced by Bill Powell of WSIA 88.9 FM. The band was also featured in a print article. Damned Cause later had the opportunity to record their CD, Sterilized Nation, produced by legendary guitarist Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal, prior to his time with Guns N' Roses. View a studio photo.

Thomas first met legendary drummer A.J. Pero of Twisted Sister while in Damned Cause, as A.J. was booking shows at The Cave and supporting the band. In 2001, Thomas joined the speed death metal band Morose, where he got to spend more time with A.J., who regularly hung out at the rehearsal studio while Thomas was rehearsing there—sharing stories from the road and offering invaluable advice on navigating the music industry. A.J.'s mentorship left a lasting impression on Thomas's musical path. May A.J. rest in peace.

A New Direction

Independent Work & Creative Career

Following that, Thomas shifted to solo work—writing and producing two independent albums titled Silence of the Souls and Digital Shock under the project name Diversity. In 2002, Thomas returned briefly to the stage with the band Modus Operandi, playing a series of shows throughout New York City before stepping away a year later to focus on growing his web design business full-time.

All the while, Thomas was cultivating a parallel career as a web developer in Manhattan, working for top-tier companies including MTV, Viacom, McGraw-Hill (BusinessWeek), NYU Online, Operation IT, Mega Tech Software, PwC, BSquared Communications, Grey Direct Inc., Barnes & Noble, IN D 500 Filmed Entertainment, and CRK CyberWorld LLC. In 2002, he officially launched his own design studio—BrainScanMedia.com, Inc.—which has been thriving for over 24 years.

In the end there's still The Word everywhere...
In Heaven and its angels, the Earth and the stars,
even in the darkest part of the human soul.
It was there, The Word burned brightest.
And for a moment, I was blinded

The Calling

Faith, Ministry & Zephoniel

Having survived an abusive environment since the age of four, and profoundly affected by actual demonic encounters throughout his youth and adult life, Thomas found salvation and became a devoted follower of Christ. Much of this pain, survival, and ultimate redemption is channeled into his debut album, Fallen Wings—a raw and personal testament to the fallen nature of man, spiritual warfare, and the grace found in Christ. Driven by this transformation, in 2009, he became an ordained minister and began preaching the Gospel to anyone willing to listen. Despite facing opposition—not only from nonbelievers but also from professing Christians resistant to truth—he remained committed to his calling. After years of preaching, writing, and ministry, Thomas felt a growing burden: how to reach a younger generation overwhelmed by distraction and self-worship, as warned in 2 Timothy 3:2–4: "lovers of their own selves."

It was in that moment of reflection that the vision for Zephoniel was born. The name itself had been with Thomas for a very long time, first revealed in a few very strange dreams and later resurfacing under hypnosis while receiving therapy for PTSD stemming from his abusive childhood. With this clear calling, he began reviving his musical gifts to preach through lyrics rooted in biblical truth and prophetic insight. Music, a universal language that transcends barriers and speaks to the soul, became the vessel. Through it, the story of Heaven, the great rebellion, and the spiritual war we are caught in can be told with raw emotion and divine power.

Zephoniel—an angelic name meaning "Hidden Within God"—is not a band, but a prophetic solo project by Thomas J. Allen. Fueled by faith, Scripture, and divine calling, Zephoniel fuses cinematic metal and biblical prophecy to awaken the spirit and proclaim truth in a world consumed by deception. Each track is more than a song—it's a proclamation rooted in the Holy Scriptures and amplified by ancient texts both canonical and apocryphal. Drawing inspiration from books such as Revelation and Daniel, as well as writings like Enoch, Jubilees, Jasher, 2 Esdras, and other preserved apocryphal works, Zephoniel unveils a clearer picture of the spiritual war, the coming judgment, and the hope of redemption. Whether through thunderous riffs, orchestral arrangements, or solemn spoken word, Zephoniel delivers a sound meant to challenge, convict, and inspire. This is more than music. This is a mission. A ministry. A lone voice crying out in the wilderness, preparing the way of the Lord.

“Nevertheless as coming the tokens, behold, the days shall come, that they which dwell upon earth shall be taken in a great number, and the way of truth shall be hidden, and the land shall be barren of faith.”

— 2 Esdras 5:1 (KJV)

“And now I know this mystery, that sinners will alter and pervert the words of righteousness in many ways, and will speak wicked words, and lie, and practice great deceits, and write books concerning their words.”

— 1 Enoch 104:10 (R.H. Charles)

Faith & Sound

Does Heavy Music Belong to Darkness?

Some say heavy music cannot be of God. Zephoniel answers with a larger view of the Creator.

“People may say heavy music belongs to Satan, but Satan created nothing. God is the Creator of heaven, earth, sound, rhythm, breath, and every gift from which an instrument is made. Evil can corrupt what God made, but it cannot claim ownership of it. How small must our view of God be if we believe a guitar riff, a drumbeat, or a low-tuned chord somehow lies outside His dominion? All creation belongs to the Lord—and what belongs to Him can be used to proclaim His name.”

“The earth is the LORD'S, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.”

— Psalm 24:1 (KJV)

“Praise him with the sound of the trumpet: praise him with the psaltery and harp. Praise him with the timbrel and dance: praise him with stringed instruments and organs. Praise him upon the loud cymbals: praise him upon the high sounding cymbals.”

— Psalm 150:3–5 (KJV)
Medicine in Honey

Zephoniel’s purpose is not heaviness for its own sake. The Lord’s message carried through powerful music can be like medicine placed in honey: enduring truth offered in a form that may reach someone who would never first enter a church or open a sermon. The music gains the ear; Scripture speaks to the heart.

Ezekiel 28:13 mentions “the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes.” Some Christians understand the passage as looking beyond the king of Tyre to Lucifer before his fall, while others do not. Zephoniel does not depend upon that debated interpretation: the clearer foundation is that the earth and its fullness belong to the Lord.

Satan created no music. God created sound. Darkness may corrupt what God made, but it cannot own it.

Prayer

"Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord God Almighty, which was, and is, and is to come. Bless the Lord, O my soul: and all that is within me, I bless His holy name. Blessed be the name of the Lord from this time forth and for evermore. Heal me, O Lord, and I shall be healed; save me, and I shall be saved, seal me, and I shall be sealed: for thou art my praise. Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ."

— Prayer Ref: Revelation 4:8, Psalm 103:1, Psalm 113:2, Jeremiah 17:14, Ephesians 1:3 (KJV)
