11. Obadiah: The Fall of Edom 5:49

"As you have done, it shall be done to you."
A short but fierce warning to Edom for their pride and betrayal.
Obadiah proclaims that the height of the mountain is no protection from the hand of the Almighty.

INTRO

"The vision of Obadiah...
We have heard a rumor from the Lord...
An ambassador is sent among the heathen...
Arise ye... let us rise up against her in battle."

VERSE 1

You dwell in clefts of silent stone,
You say, "Who'll bring me down?"
Your heart was high upon the hill,
But pride will drown the crown.

You watched your brother bleed and fall,
You shut the gate and turned.
You laughed while Jacob cried for help —
But now the fire burns.

VERSE 2

You stood aloof the day of wrath,
As strangers seized the land.
You laid your hands on broken kin,
With blood upon your hands.

You cut the road, you blocked their flight,
You cast your lots with Rome.
But now the storm you fed so long
Will tear your mountain home.

BRIDGE

"As you have done...
it shall be done to you.
Your reward shall return
upon your own head."

VERSE 3

Though you soar like the eagle flies,
And build your nest on high —
Even from there will I bring you down,
Declares the Lord Most High.

OUTRO

"The day of the Lord is near upon all nations...
As you have done...
it shall be done to you."

"The pride of thine heart hath deceived thee, thou that dwellest in the clefts of the rock, whose habitation is high; that saith in his heart, Who shall bring me down to the ground? Though thou exalt thyself as the eagle, and though thou set thy nest among the stars, thence will I bring thee down, saith the LORD."
