The Invisible Source - Receiving Life, Not Religion

Scripture: John 4:24, John 14:6, 1 John 1:1 (NKJV)

The Invisible Source

Introduction: The Search for the Source

We often look for God in the wrong places. We look for Him in buildings, in rigid rituals, or in the intellectual arguments of men. But the Scripture tells us that God is not a statue to be polished or a code to be deciphered. He is the Source.

The Apostle John opens his first epistle with a profound declaration about this Source:

"That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, concerning the Word of life."
— 1 John 1:1 (NKJV)

Notice the phrase "the Word of life." Before anything existed, there was Life. God is the fountainhead of all existence. Today, we are looking beyond the external trappings of religion to encounter the Invisible God who is the source of all life.

I. God is Spirit: The Immortal and Invisible

To understand what we receive when we come to Christ, we must understand who God is. Jesus gave us the definitive description of God’s nature in his conversation with the Samaritan woman:

"God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth."
— John 4:24 (NKJV)

God is Spirit. He is not flesh and blood. He is Immortal, meaning He cannot die, and Invisible, meaning He cannot be seen by the physical eye.

Because He is invisible, the world often ignores Him. They mistake His invisibility for absence. But just because you cannot see the wind, does not mean it lacks power. Just because you cannot see the roots of a great oak tree, does not mean they aren't the source of the tree's strength. God is the invisible engine of the universe. He is the battery of existence. He is not a "religious figure"; He is the oxygen of the soul.

II. Jesus: The Connection to the Source

If God is invisible and Spirit, how do we—flesh and blood, mortal and visible—connect with Him? We cannot climb up to Him. He had to come down to us.

"Jesus said to him, 'I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.'"
— John 14:6 (NKJV)

Jesus did not say, "I am the founder of a new religion." He said, "I am the Life." Jesus is the visible image of the invisible God. He is the conduit. When we look at Jesus, we see the Father. He came to bridge the gap between the mortal and the Immortal, between the visible world and the invisible Spirit. He is the open door to the Source.

III. Receiving the Life, Not a Religion

This is the most critical point for us today. When we receive Jesus Christ through the power of the Holy Spirit, we do not receive a religion.

Religion is a list of rules. Religion is humanity trying to reach God through effort. Religion is external. But Life is internal. When you accept Christ, you are receiving the invisible source of life itself. You are being plugged back into the power grid of heaven. The Bible tells us that we are sealed with the Holy Spirit. This "seal" is not just a stamp of ownership; it is an infusion of God's very nature. The life of God—that immortal, invisible, uncreated life—enters into your mortal body.

IV. Light Conquers Darkness

What happens when this invisible life enters us? It does what life always does to death, and what light always does to darkness. It conquers.

Imagine a room that has been sealed in darkness for a thousand years. It is pitch black. If you strike a single match, does the darkness fight back? Does the darkness say, "I have been here too long, you cannot shine"? No. The darkness flees instantly.

Light conquers darkness without a battle.

The life of God in you is that Light. It conquers the spiritual death that once held you. It conquers the fear of the grave. Because the Holy Spirit lives in you, you possess a life that cannot be extinguished. As believers, we do not just "hope" we survive death. We possess the Life that has already defeated it. We carry the cure in our veins.

Final Encouragement

Brothers and sisters, stop trying to practice a religion. You cannot behave your way into life; you must receive it.

God is the Invisible Source. He is Spirit. He is Immortal. And through Jesus Christ, He has offered you His own Spirit. When you have Him, you have the Life that swallows up death. You have the Light that scatters the darkness. Walk in that power today.

Prayer

"Father, we thank You that You are the Source of all life. Thank You that we do not have to settle for dead religion, but we can receive the living Person of the Holy Spirit. Seal us today with Your life. Let the light of Your Spirit conquer every dark area in our hearts, just as light conquers darkness. In Jesus’ name, Amen."
