Fallen Wings is about a dream so real his wife heard him speaking aloud in a language
she didn't recognize — standing before the throne of God with an angel arguing his case,
begging not to be cast into human flesh, waking in a sweat with an Aramaic plea still
on his lips and the memory of a brother angel weeping for him in heaven.

I fell asleep in iron light,
And knelt beneath a silver sky.
The hall was full of wings and stone,
My name was read, in the middle of the night.
My hands were shaking, like broken glass,
Before the throne of God, I kneel.
An angel stood beside me,
Armor made of light, raised his voice,
To argue my case, before the throne.
Then the floor began to shake,
As I heard the sentence.
Soft, as falling ash,
Become bone, and breath,
Become human flesh.
Please father, no!
I'm sorry, I'm sorry!
Please father, no!
Don't send me from my home!
Please father, no!
I'm sorry, I'm sorry!
Please father, no!
My fallen wings, broken by the throne.
He said I must go down,
Into clay, and bone.
Wear the weight of blood,
And learn what hurts, to trust.
Cast from what I knew,
Out beyond the gate.
The garden in my memory,
Turning into rain.
Then I heard the sentence.
Soft, as falling ash.
Become bone, and breath.
Become human, at last.
Please father, no!
I'm sorry, I'm sorry!
Please father, no!
Don't send me from home!
Please father, no!
My throat was full of fire!
Please father, no!
Another angel stood,
he wept for my fallen wings.
I dreamed it in my sleep,
The words came out like prayer.
My wings, ripped from my soul!
The starlight, stripped from my eyes!
My lips spoke softly from where I lay,
Pleading with my Father in desperation.
My wife shook my shoulder,
And asked, "What were you saying there?"
I heard my own voice tremble,
In a tongue she did not know...
Aramaic:
Abba, b'u la!
Shbuq li, shbuq li, la!
English Translation:
Father, please no!
Forgive me, forgive me, no!
My dream of an angelic brother,
still holding a flame for me in heaven...
Please father, no!
Please father, no!
Please father, no!
I'm sorry, I'm sorry!
Please father, no!
Don't send me from my home!
Please father, no!
I'm sorry, I'm sorry!
Please father, no!
My fallen wings broke, by the throne!
Please father, no!
I'm sorry, I'm sorry!
Please father, no!
I woke, with the word still warm...
Sweating in fright and fear
